<boxed-text>

Boxed Text

Textual material that is part of the body but is outside the flow of the narrative text (for example, a sidebar).

Remarks

Usage: The <boxed-text> element can be used for any text insert whether enclosed in a box or not (for example, marginalia, sidebars, cautions, tips, warnings, note boxes).
Historical Note: This element (<boxed-text>) was significantly remodeled from previous versions of this Tag Set. The current NISO JATS values are backward compatible with the last NLM version, but not with earlier versions. Specifically, in prior versions the <boxed-text> element could contain the <title> element directly, but now it can contain only the element <caption>, which contains the <title>.

Related Elements

A footnote <fn> usually contains material that cannot stand alone; it must be related to a word, phrase, or paragraph already in the basic material. Supplementary text that stands on its own or that is related to but not directly tied to material in the text, can be tagged using the <boxed-text> element.
